Carrefour to keep capex below $70mn in Makro conversion to Atacadão

Carrefour Brasil SA expects to keep capital expenditure to convert 30 stores acquired from smaller rival Makro into its Atacadão wholesale format below R$300 million ($68.41 million). After local antitrust regulator Cade approves the recent acquisition, it should take three to six months to reopen each store as Atacadão, Roberto Müssnich, who leads Carrefour Brazil’s wholesale unit said.

Carrefour buys 30 stores & 14 gas stations from rival Makro for $454mn

The Brazilian unit of France’s Carrefour SA has agreed to buy 30 stores and 14 gas stations in 17 states from rival retailer Makro’s Brazilian subsidiary for 1.95 billion reais ($453.69 million), the French retailer said in a securities filing on Sunday. The stores will be integrated into the cash & carry Atacadão chain. Makro will continue to operate in Brazil but with only 24 stores in the country’s richest state, Sao Paulo.

Carrefour Brasil in talks to acquire rival Makro

Carrefour Brasil (CRFB3.SA) said in a filing it is in talks to acquire stores operated by rival retail chain Makro by an undisclosed figure. However, the company denied reports by Brazilian media last week saying that it was acquiring Makro’s Brazilian subsidiary for 5 billion real ($1.16 billion), and said the deal value would be much lower.
