The majority of councillors at Brazil’s antitrust agency Cade voted on Wednesday against a prosecutors’ request to review the sale of Embraer SA’s EMBR3.SA commercial division to Boeing Co BA.N and allowed the deal to proceed. Earlier this month, Brazilian prosecutors had filed an appeal with Cade asking the regulator to reconsider its approval of the deal due to potential omissions in the decision. It tie-up had been approved without restrictions on Jan. 27.
The Brazilian unit of France’s Carrefour SA has agreed to buy 30 stores and 14 gas stations in 17 states from rival retailer Makro’s Brazilian subsidiary for 1.95 billion reais ($453.69 million), the French retailer said in a securities filing on Sunday. The stores will be integrated into the cash & carry Atacadão chain. Makro will continue to operate in Brazil but with only 24 stores in the country’s richest state, Sao Paulo.
Grupo SBF, the formal name of Brazil’s sports goods chain Centauro, closed a $212 million deal to take over Nike operations in the country. Centauro’s shares (CNTO3.SA) rose more than 10% on Thursday mid-morning trading in Sao Paulo after the announcement. The deal, which will add 24 Nikes stores to the current Centauro’s 200 stores, still needs to be approved by Brazilian antitrust watchdog CADE.
