Offshore wind will demand national technological development

Power generation in offshore wind farms should experience a growth boom from now until 2025. During this period, 70 gigawatts (GW) will be added to the global energy matrix, according to projections from the Global Wind Energy Council, which would be equivalent to five “Itaipus” in installed capacity. In Brazil, players in the energy market are already showing interest in investing in offshore parks.

Santa Adélia plant gets $19 mm from BNDES through Renovabio

Santa Adélia plant has contracted a R$ 100 million ($19 mm) loan with Banco Nacional do Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES), through the credit program of RenovaBio, of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME). This is the first contract made by the financial institution in this mode, which has a total payment term of up to 96 months, including a grace period of up to two years.

Perfin creates solar energy company and expects to invest $1 bn by 2025

Brazilian asset manager Perfin has created a new company focused on renewable energy generation in Brazil, mainly solar, with plans to invest R$5.5 billion ($1 bn) by 2025, a company executive told Reuters. The deal highlights both the appetite of investment funds for transactions in Brazil’s electricity sector and the strong interest aroused by the country’s potential in renewables.

SP partners with Mercado Livre to professionalise and generate 5,000 jobs

Governor João Doria announced a partnership with Mercado Livre that includes investment of R$ 4 billion ($770 mm) by the e-commerce platform in the state of São Paulo. This is the largest private investment in the same year since the beginning of the current administration, with an estimated 5,000 new jobs by the end of 2021. The agreement also provides for partnerships for training in qualification and entrepreneurship, offering courses in the areas of sales, logistics and technology.
