The cost of over-firing thermoelectric plants to meet the demand for energy in Brazil added up to R$3.9 billion ($696 mm) in the first three months of 2021 alone, which exceeds the almost R$3.7 billion ($660 mm) for the whole of last year, according to the most up-to-date data from the Chamber of Commercialisation of Electrical Energy (CCEE).

The Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém identified an area of 200 hectares with potential for hydrogen production, with electrolysis capacity of 5 GW for the installation of green hydrogen hub in Ceará. If the hub is fixed in this location, it would be able to produce approximately 900 thousand tons of Hydrogen.

In another auction of the Infra Week, a railway track of the West-East Integration Railroad (Fiol) was bidden. The winner of the bid was Bahia Mineração (Bamin), with no premium and a single proposal of R$ 32.7 million ($5.8 mm). The auction offered the private initiative the section between the cities of Ilhéus and Caetité, in Bahia, which is 537 kilometres long.

The Brazilian e-commerce grew 75% in 2020, shows data released by Mastercard. Also according to the survey, this accelerated digitalisation moved more than $900 bn around the planet last year. In Brazil, online sales represented 11% of all retail purchases last year. Before the pandemic, purchases in this modality was equivalent to 6% of the total retail sector. In 2020, the final average was 7%.

The second wave of the covid-19 pandemic interrupted a sequence of nine highs in industrial activity. According to the Industrial Indicators survey, released by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), the number of hours worked in the sector fell 0.5% in February compared to January. Despite the drop, the number of hours worked in the industry accumulated a 3.5% rise in February compared to February last year, before the pandemic began.
