Brazil will sustain 37% of wind power expansion in Latin America until 2025, says GWEC

The entity projects that Brazil will be the flagship of the wind sector in Latin America, pulling at least 37% of the expansion until 2025. Amid the economic impacts of the pandemic, the wind industry installed a record 93 GW of new capacity in 2020, a 53% increase over the previous year, according to the report. Total global wind power capacity is 743 GW, which helps the world avoid the emission of more than 1.1 billion tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to the annual carbon emissions of the whole of South America.

BTG makes its 1st sustainable credit transaction with agricultural company

BTG Pactual has granted R$100 million ($17.5 mm) in credit to Olfar Alimento e Energia, in its first “sustainable” financing transaction, in which the bank will grant interest reductions as an incentive for the company to meet social and environmental targets. The funds will be used for working capital and investments in the Rio Grande do Sul-based company, which is one of the largest biodiesel industrial groups in Brazil. According to BTG, Olfar has committed to increase the purchase of family farming inputs and expand the process of packaging collection through reverse logistics over the next few years.

Duratex signs a $122 mm credit line with BNDES

Duratex has entered into a R$ 697 million ($122 mm) credit line with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) within the scope of BNDES Finame Direct. Under the agreement, the company has up to two years to use the funds. According to a statement to the market released by the company, the credit will be used to acquire machines, equipment and industrialized materials manufactured in Brazil, as well as raw materials.

Unemployment hits record and reaches 14.3 million people

The unemployed population in the country reached 14.272 million people in the mobile quarter ended in January, according to the National Continuous Household Sample Survey (Pnad), a record for the historical series, which began in 2012. Despite the record high in the unemployed population, the unemployment rate stood at 14.2% in the quarter ended in January, which is considered stable compared to the previous quarter (ended in October, 14.3%).
