The Central Bank (BC) revised its estimate for the Brazilian economy in 2021 and is now forecasting a 3.6% growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The previous expectation of the institution, released in December last year, was of a higher level of activity in 2021, around 3.8%.

The Brazilian Northeast registered new records for solar generation last Wednesday, March 24, reaching a peak of 1,587 MW at 12:19 pm, enough energy to supply 13.3% of the region’s load, the National Electric System Operator (ONS) said in a statement. The best mark until then was on March 13, when 1,561 MW were verified at 1:26 pm. Regarding average generation, the amount reached 555 average MW, being sufficient to meet the demand of 4.7% of the region.

Technology education startup Digital House has received an investment of around R$280 million ($50 mm), led by Mercado Livre and technology company Globant. The round was accompanied by private equity manager Riverwood Capital and venture capital fund Kaszek. Digital House offers remote training on e-commerce, digital marketing, data science and cybersecurity, as well as executive programmes and in-company courses.

Research by the Brazilian Association of Public Cleaning Companies and Special Waste (Abrelpe) shows that plastic is responsible for 70% of the waste found in Brazilian seas. According to the study, conducted during 2020, Styrofoam is the second most present waste, with a 10% share. The data, released are from the Lixo Fora D’Água project, from Abrelpe, started in 2018.

Nissan has announced the suspension of its manufacturing activities in Brazil due to the increase in cases of the new coronavirus. The decision follows the pace of other automakers that have reached the same resolution, such as Volkswagen, which suspended production in its four plants in the country. General Motors, in Gravataí (RS), due to lack of components, is also on the list that should not stop growing.
