Corn ethanol accounted for 6.7% of biofuel production

Ethanol production from corn predominated in the first half of January, since almost all sugarcane mills are stopped because of the off-season, and in the accumulated 2020/21 harvest it already represented 6.7% of total ethanol production, according to data from the Union of Sugarcane Industries (Unica). From the beginning of the cycle to the end of the first half of January, 1.98 billion litres of ethanol were produced from corn, an increase of 72.9% compared to the same period of the previous harvest.

Agro has the largest formal job generation since 2011

Even in a year of pandemic, formal employment generation by agriculture recorded its best performance in 10 years in 2020. The sector opened 61,637 new jobs with a signed portfolio, the highest since 2011, when the balance was 85,585 jobs. This is shown in a survey by the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA), with data from the General Registry of Employees and Unemployed (Novo Caged), released by the Ministry of Economy.

Bradesco’s net income is $1.2 bn, up 2.3% in one year

Bradesco reported a recurring net profit of R$6.8 billion ($1.2 bn) in the fourth quarter of 2020, the highest quarterly result in the bank’s history, 2.3% higher than a year earlier and up 35.2% on the previous three months. However, progress was insufficient to prevent the fall in the year-to-date figure, marked by an increase in provisions in the midst of the crisis caused by the pandemic. The bank ended 2020 with an accumulated profit of R$19.458 billion ($3.5 bn), a 24.8% contraction compared to 2019.
