A coronavirus vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac showed “general efficacy” of 50.4% in a late-stage trial in Brazil, researchers said, barely enough for regulatory approval and far short of earlier indications. The latest results are a major disappointment for Brazil, as the Chinese vaccine is one of two that the federal government has lined up to begin immunisation during the second wave of the world’s second-deadliest COVID-19 outbreak.

PPSA collects $128 mm for the Union in 2020
Pre-Salt Oil (PPSA) raised R$704.2 million ($128 mm) for the Union last year, adding a total of R$2.8 billion ($510 mm) since 2018, the state oil and gas company, which is responsible for representing Brazil in production sharing contracts in pre-salt areas.

Solar sector will gain about 5,400 new companies in 2021
The solar energy sector is experiencing exponential growth in Brazil, with a rate of about 450 new companies per month in the country, according to mapping of the Solar Portal. The perspective is to arrive at the end of the year with approximately 5,400 companies entering the national photovoltaic market, which will correspond to a growth of 27% in the current volume.

Brazil generated more than 2 million temporary jobs in 2020
Temporary agency work generated more than 2 million jobs in the country by 2020. The balance is of the Brazilian Association of Temporary Work (Asserttem). Faced with a challenging year due to the pandemic, the number of hirings reached 2,002,920, an increase of 34.8% compared to 2019.

Brazil’s agro exports exceed $100 bn by 2020
Brazilian agribusiness exports reached $100.81 billion in 2020, the second highest in history, behind only the 2018 record of $101.17 billion, with strong Chinese demand and support from the dollar, the Agriculture Ministry said. In relation to 2019, shipments of agricultural products rose 4.1%.
