E-commerce should reach $22 bn in 2021 and grow 30% this Christmas

E-commerce sales in Brazil in 2021 are expected to grow 26%, which would lead the sector to a turnover of R$ 110 billion ($22 bn). A survey conducted by EbitNielsen also indicated the expectation for Christmas this year with an expected increase of 30% to R$ 3.38 billion ($676 mm) in sales. The 2021 result, however, will be limited by the more gradual recovery of the economy, expectations of higher basic interest rates and higher inflation.

BRDE funds $48 mm for renewable projects in 2020

The Regional Development Bank of the Extreme South (BRDE) this year contracted R$ 241 million ($48 mm) in renewable energy projects to be developed in the three states of the Southern region, covering CGHs, SHPs, wind and photovoltaic, as well as energy efficiency. Most of the resources, R$ 182 million ($36 mm), will go to Paraná. From 2015 to 2019, the volume of funding from BRDE totalled R$ 1.37 billion ($274 mm) in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, out of a total of 650 contracts.

Infrastructure projects reduced agricultural shipping by 11% in value

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure’s annual balance sheet, 1,259 km of roads were built throughout the year, resulting in an average 11% reduction in the value of agricultural transport, the ministry said, based on studies by the Planning and Logistics Company (EPL). The Ministry of Infrastructure delivered 86 priority projects in 2020.

Vale approves 30-year extension of railroad concessions for commitments of $5 bn

The mining company Vale informed that approved additive terms for the extension of the concession contracts of its railroads Estrada de Ferro Carajás (EFC) and Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas (EFVM) from the expiration of the current contracts in 2027. According to the company, the documents for the 30-year extension of the concessions will be signed in the next few days with the government and the company will assume total commitments estimated at R$ 24.7 billion ($5 bn) in exchange for the renewal.
