End of $1.7bn litigation reopens electricity market

The Aneel defined on Tuesday the last details of the proposal, awaited by the sector for at least five years, to end litigation motivated by power generators that refused to shoulder losses related to production at levels below those stablished in contract. Energy Development Account for 2021 is estimated at $4.6 bn

Aneel opened public consultation to discuss the proposed budget for the Energy Development Account (EDC), whose preliminary value is R$24.1 billion ($4.6 bn). According to the agency, the proposal is equivalent to a reduction of 1.4%. This reduction was motivated by the effects of Provisional Measure 998/2020, which defined a new source of revenue for the CDE, using resources from R&D and energy efficiency programmes that were not executed or committed.
