Rio de Janeiro has officially entered the Natural Gas Free Market. According to Firjan data, for every million cubic meters/day of gas produced in Rio there is a potential to generate additional annual revenues of over R$60 million ($10.5 mm) in ICMS and R$20 million ($3.5mm) in royalties and special participation for the state and municipalities of Rio de Janeiro.

Atlas Renewable Energy announces $67 mm for solar plant in Bahia
Atlas Renewable Energy has announced a $67 mm loan to finance the construction of the Jacarandá project, a 187 MWp solar plant under development in Brazil. The project is located in the municipality of Juazeiro, in the state of Bahia, and will generate 440 GWh per year.

Thermal Power Plants without restrictions for energy auctions
Thermal power plants that are declared totally inflexible will be able to participate in future energy auctions. The MME wants to remove restrictions that still prevent plants with that profile from competing for contracts in the regulated market, said Marisete Pereira, MME’s executive secretary.

Voltalia is allowed to test wind turbines in the RN
Voltalia received a positive opinion from Aneel, releasing the start of the operation in test of the wind turbine nº 2 of the Vila Ceará I power plant, adding 3.5 MW of power installed in the municipality of Serra do Mel (RN).

Coruripe invests $12 mm in sugar railroad terminal
The sugar and ethanol producer Usina Coruripe launched a project for a railroad terminal in Iturama (MG), developed to boost the flow in the region. The direct investment in the facility is around $12 mm, which is expected to move 2 million tons of VHP sugar per year to the port of Santos (SP).
